As usual, I don’t really feel like eating. For lunch I had a good sandwich and some red beans and rice, loaded with andouille sausage, so dinner so far has consisted of some breakfast cereal (Cinnamon Toast Crunch, I believe) and a can of sparkling water. Nausea is my new normal, but sometimes I don’t know if it’s due to hunger or illness...

“Nausea is my new normal, but sometimes I don’t know if it’s due to hunger or illness..."

That sounds frustrating.

I had a Big Mac meal for (a late)  lunch so I’m not particularly hungry. I got the fries that just came out of the fryer today so I was quite happy.

I just had a couple of benadryls (diphenhydramine) which I’m hoping will ease my nasal congestion (not feeling sick at all but my nose is blocked and instantly re-blocks itself even if I blow my nose) but is probably just going to knock me out since I can’t be annoyed by nasal congestion if I’m unconscious.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the shit. La Croix is also the shit - love the orange flavour since it gives me the satisfaction of orange soda without any of the guilt (except maybe financially since that shit isn’t cheap).

It is a challenge. Thankfully I’ve been prescribed some meds to quell the feeling if food doesn’t fix things. With any luck I won’t need chemo; had the chest CT scan today to check and am just waiting for the results. On the bright side, I’m finally shedding those extra pounds that have stuck around for years...

I’m rather partial to the c oconut, but only buy it when it’s on sale. Costco sells a 30-pack of Klarbrunn, with my favorite being the cherry/grapefruit pack. The grapefruit is amazing, with a wonderful aroma when you pop open a can. Much better than the La Croix equivalent.

Weirdly, I’ve had a similar weird nausea lately. For me, it started with a ton of work/pay stress . It got better over the holidays when I wasn’t violently puking from norovirus.

Shedding weight due to illness sucks. My uncle went through cancer recently and it takes its toll. He had to do radiation and killed his taste, unfortunately. Though it came back a lot better than he thought.

Rooting for you, dude!

Unfortunately I don’t have a Costco membership (it’s overkill for a single man) but it’s something I’ll keep in mind since my parents go pretty frequently so I can always ask them to pick some up for me. Not sure if the Canadian Costcos carry it but cherry/grapefruit sparkling water would be great.

My wife has a disease where she gets nauseous and can’t eat, and while it’s nice for shedding weight, it’s hell on the body. Hope it turns out to be a minor thing and you can get through it easily.

Pizza rolls and a PB&J, because I’m in pre-deployment training living in a hotel and I don’t want to spend $15 a meal on food around here, when I can spend $3 on food and $12 on beer!

Well, I’m a single man and I think I get my money’s worth out of it, probably on the automotive side alone. I buy most of my gasoline there (Top Tier FTW) as it’s considerably cheaper than comparable places. I saved about $40 on the battery, and the set of Michelins I just put on are amazing.

I buy some of my groceries there, but not all. You can’t beat the roasted $5 chicken, and unlike the stores back home in CA, the ones here in MO will sell you milk 1 gallon at a time instead of two like in CA. Frozen foods will last for some time, and I have a FoodSaver, so buying meat in bulk and freezing it for the long term saves a bundle.

It’s also just a very pleasant place to be. My dad and I were discussing it, and came to the conclusion that it’s an upper middle-class kind of place, and attracts a crowd that we’re both familiar with. Unlike Sam’s, with their utterly useless staff and rather boring, middle-America food items (and freakshow customers, from my strange and bizarre experiences) , Costco has incredibly helpful staff (that get paid well and have good benefits - two things I believe in ) and an assortment of high-quality but somewhat unusual items. For example, i t’s where I was first introduced to the wonder of the Castelvetrano olive.

Kinja'd!!!

Amazon will sell you two big jars for $40 plus shipping , or you can grab them for $8/jar at Costco. I forgot to get a jar yesterday, and ran in for this one item when I happened to be in the area earlier today . It was worth it.

The hard part is not grabbing everything in sight. A tagline from a favorite computer shopping website is “How to go broke saving money”, and that can apply to Costco if you’re not careful. They don’t always have the best price on things so it’s best to know what stuff costs elsewhere, but 98% of the time they’re the better bargain. I usually buy my preferred brand of anti-perspirant at Target because the price is better than Costco, but when Costco has it on sale I’ll get it there.

The thing to remember is that they don’t make their money from selling goods, they make it by selling memberships. It’s like rebates, where you pay up front and only get the savings later. Once you know this you’ll find reasons to get the most out of your membership, even if it’s just wandering around enjoying free samples (something I used to do when I was unemployed and broke...)

Not exactly minor - colon cancer. I’m waiting for test results to see if it has spread, but so far they don’t think it has. I’ll have surgery next month and hopefully that’ll take care of it, but I see a lifetime of CT scans, blood tests and colonoscopies (with that horrible prep work) ahead of me.

Good take! It’s something I’ll have to consider, but I think what puts me off most is shopping there since I hate how slow people move along with the sheer numbers of these slow people.

I agree about Costco, however there's one big problem with the one around here. It's such a nightmare getting in and out of that parking lot, I end up not going there very often. We just let our membership expired, because we weren't using it enough to justify it. The place is so friggin busy, you'd think they were giving the stuff away!

I know what you mean. My folks have three within a couple of miles of them, but out here in STL we have three for the entire metro area, with the closest one being about 10 miles away. They’re all kind of a pain to get to, especially the one closest to me which has just one long road for access. I think the key is to never go on a weekend, and try to go at odd hours such as right at opening or near closing time. It helps to know what you’re shopping for instead of just perusing so you can get in and get out in a hurry. I also make it a habit to park next to the cart return corral in order to protect one side of my car and to make for a quicker exit.

Those are definitely keys to making it as painless as possible. I could see getting a membership again someday, but for now we just don’t use it enough.

Its DEFINITELY a higher end crowd, with far superior service, than Sam's Club. You won't catch me within 1000' of a Sam's.
